Description
-
Are you experiencing a Developmental Crisis resulting from a normal life change such as leaving home, a new career, marriage, childbirth or retirement?
-
Are you experiencing a Situational Crisis resulting from an unexpected trauma such as the loss of a loved one, illness, retrenchment or divorce?
We all experience a variety of stressful events in our lives from time to time. Each of us has our own unique way of dealing with them to maintain a comfortable emotional balance, but a crisis state comes into being when formally successful mechanisms fail to return us to the pre-crisis level of emotional balance.
A crisis is an internal experience of confusion and anxiety resulting in ineffective decisions and behaviours, leaving you feeling confused, vulnerable, anxious, afraid, angry, guilty, hopeless and often helpless.
Sometimes a crisis situation can be seen as an opportunity to force you to go beyond familiar coping skills and develop new skills but a becomes dangerous when you become overwhelmed with anxiety and pain and start adopting negative ways. So when these usual coping mechanisms fail, it’s time to get help.

What is crisis coaching?
Crisis coaching is an in-depth, no-nonsense method to quickly assess your crisis situation and chart a path to move forward. Understanding that no two crisis situations are the same, I provide a safe space and handhold you through the process to get you back on track as quickly as possible.
This usually involves taking an intensive look at your current situation and intuitively equipping you with the tools, support and direction to help you move forward and restore your mental health and general well-being.
Unlike traditional counselling, this is usually not a long-term endeavour. I work with you until we have successfully navigated your crisis situation and you feel confident to start moving forward, armed with new and more effective coping skills.
What to expect during the initial assessment session:
-
Crisis Assessment: Assess the cause and degree of the situation;
-
Problem Definition: Clarify the situation using the NLP Meta Model;
-
Resource Exploration: Joint brainstorming to explore available resources;
-
Negative Emotion Release: Use Negative Emotion Therapy to release difficult emotions;
-
Plan of Action: Develop a S.M.A.R.T. action plan to resolve the situation.
Together we will navigate the crisis situation, and explore available resources, leaving you with an action plan to move forward.
